The idea of large, aesthetically pleasing, ecologically sound greenhouses in our midst, producing tomatoes and other vegetables that don’t need to be trucked in from three states over, is intuitively a good one. (There is also currently a grassroots urban agricultural movement taking place on rooftops and backyards in Brooklyn, Oakland, CA, Los Angeles and other major cities, which we salute and will be covering frequently.)
Of the large-scale urban farms, the most recent is the Plantagon, an enormous geodesic dome greenhouse designed to produce crops from the middle of a city – and give tourists something to look at too!
