Jose Selgas and Lucia Cano, both architects at the firm, have designed a marvelous building. It’s a simple, one-story tunnel. A giant Wiimote among the trees. Half of the curved roof, the side facing north, is transparent; the other half is opaque. Naturally, the employees’ desks are under the opaque half as to stay out of the sun. The interior’s lime green and yellow wood boards intensify the foliage seen through the window — most of the year, anyway. The studio doesn’t try to blend in or commune with nature the way a log cabin or stone house does. But because it’s so bunker-like (it’s lower than nearby tree branches), it somehow isn’t too disruptive. It’s not trying to make a scene, which is very refreshing. The commute must be pleasant too.
