Polish Pavilion by Wojciech Kakowski, Natalia Paszkowska and Marcin Mostafa
Derived from traditional Polish paper cut-outs, this will serve as a concert hall, with shows (expect pop versions of Chopin tunes, seriously) every night. While the cladding’s design is folksy, the overall scheme is far from it, bringing to mind boldly cantilevered beasts like the Whitney Museum in New York. Mixing traditional motifs with modern shapes is nothing new, but it can still charm.
