
Of the original 302 watchtowers, only five have been preserved. Van den Berg wants to reconstruct these — and the foundations of the other, vanished towers — into to small gardens that can nourish and protect rare plants from the harsh Berlin weather. Other embellishments include emphasizing existing sand stretches, compost parks, and dunes.
Whether van den Berg’s ideas will be set in action is yet to be determined, but her exhibition can be enjoyed until the end of August.
