Illustrated Landscape of plans for Highline Building, NYC.

The book also features projects that completely revitalized a structure or urban area, such as The High Line in Manhattan, a once-neglected elevated railroad. Now it’s an elevated park for strolling and people-watching. On an even larger scale is Inujima, a remote Japanese island. Its stone quarry and copper refinery were abandoned in 1919. In 2008, Architect Hiroshi Sambuichi transformed it into the Inujima Art Project, a museum that’s powered by a sustainable air conditioning system. Sambuichi reactivated the old refinery’s chimneys, which capture natural resources and, in turn, become part of the experience of visiting the island.
