Bunny Lane, New Jersey. designed by Adam Kalkin

Bunny Lane in Bernardsville, New Jersey, a house Adam Kalkin designed for himself, is the oddest project in Build-On. And considering the weirdos in this book, that’s saying something. Kalkin is obsessed with shipping containers; he’s basically known as that guy who makes houses with shipping containers. But Bunny Lane is better than a plain old shipping-container house. It’s a modest 19th-century clapboard house surrounded by a massive corrugated-steel shed. The finished product is a quaint, country home and a modern loft space with metal staircases and lots of light — who says you can’t have it both ways?
