“We wanted to create a product, functional but also beautiful, that contrasted the supernatural feeling of the sycamore with these hard elements like the light bulb and the brass,” Beamer says of the product called ‘Stumped’. At varying heights (but primarily side-table height) and using only miscellaneous light bulbs, the pieces could be used as stand-alone side tables/lamps. “I think they also look really great as a group,” suggests Beamer, “if you have the space for it.”
Beamer admits that environmental and socially conscious attitudes are underlying tenets to their work, but is cautious about being labeled a “green” company, if only because of the fad factor surrounding green design. “[Green design] has created a certain aesthetic that I’m not necessarily excited about,” she says. “If you ask me how we’re bucking that trend, it’s to stay true to the design and environmental responsibility without letting that dictate what we’re making.”
