While designing the collection Nishijima was introduced to a local Italian artist, Stefano Bersani. “He took me to his studio,” said Nishijima, “and I was fascinated with how he mixed existing colors to produce new ones. I was standing in front of the studio looking at the pile of debris and mud and decay, and I asked him if he could reflect that with paint. I gave him a ream of fabric and he painted it by hand. I then used the fabric to make the t-shirts for the collection.” Bersani also hand painted the leather jackets, making each one a unique piece. To support the brand-free spirit of the project, Nishijima rendered “…a moment in…” in Morse code on the label of the jeans.
