The BK Farmyards’ business model works by partnering with developers, homeowners, and city agencies, who pay BK employees to temporarily transform their plots into farmland. BK refers to this service as “growing food between the cracks of urban development,” utilizing market demand for affordable, locally grown food without relying on government investment. The property owners get discounts on produce and BK Farmyards sells the rest to the neighborhood via door-to-door rickshaw delivery. They also build structures called dinner pavilions, to encourage spontaneous gatherings over food, recipe sharing, and neighborhood space.
