In Oil, Burtynsky successfully evokes the alienation we often feel in front of technology, of the waste and damage industrial activity has produced, and of our dependence on it.  There are no simple solutions to questions that involve weighing the modern quality of life versus the environmental damage it causes. And Burtynsky is not here to provide answers.  Nevertheless, awareness is often the first step to action.
