ecstatic page2 Ecstatic Peace Poetry JournalHandmade, funny, and slightly vicious, these old journals are not for those offended by nudity, sexuality (of all sorts), and profanity, but they also give play to the gentle spirit of free love and Eastern meditation. The exhibit mostly displays the journal’s covers, some of which feature big names like Ginsburg and Dylan. Ecstatic Peace, on the other hand, is available in its entirety. Moore reprinted the full, limited-pressing run, which is available to purchase as individual editions, signed editions, or as an expansive box set that comes with unnamed extras.
The real draw of this show, however, is the free performance series, which will run over the next four weekends and feature poetry readings and performances by Moore and special guests. The series kicked off last Saturday with John Giorno, a legendary downtown poet who delivered an inspired performance of some of his more recent poems. Also reading were Coley and a funny, unbilled Kim Gordon, who later joined Moore on an improvised version of an old Fugs song. Upcoming readers include musician/writer Richard Hell and experimental poet Anne Waldman.
