In the landscape of knock-off artists and instant conformity that seems to dominate fashion at times, it is always refreshing to see a young designer with an original voice. Doma quietly insists on setting himself apart from the skinny boy plague that Hedi Slimane enshrined in the last decade. This collection was no exception. The volumes increased, compensating the oversized proportions with heavy fabrics that fell on the body, and the drapery and organic patterns promised something decidedly anti-slick.
The day after the show Doma said, “I want to maintain my own esthetic, my own vision. It is very hard for a young designer to go against the grain, but that is what I am trying to do.” The last few looks gave a glimpse of Doma’s first upcoming collection for women. Needless to say, they offered nothing resembling skinny jeans or skimpy tshirts. For Doma, the woman’s sexiness lies in mystery shrouded in layers of fabric.
