The relationship between the main characters in ETV has been described as “Freudian” or “pseudo-Freudian” or — to put it more bluntly — “incestuous” by a number of critics. Is that how you envisioned their relationship?
Infantile. (laughs) I don’t care. It’s Freudian in a very simple way. I never psychoanalyze myself. But I grew up in a Freudian family.

Are you surprised by how people have reacted to the movie? At the screening I attended at least half of us started giggling during the CGI sex scene.
I didn’t expect people to laugh that much during the coitus scene. The movie finishes in a very abrupt way and what I usually get is…you know, for other movies, people would applaud at the end or they’d talk and say “Oh, I loved the movie”, but because it’s abrupt the lights go on and you can see the faces of all these people who are “What the fuck happened?” and what I usually get is, “What a trip”, (laughs) or, “This movie was a trip”. It takes most spectators awhile to make any comment on the movie. Sometimes they come after ten minutes they say, “The car crash was difficult”. (laughs) Then they call you the next day or two days later to tell you what they thought about the movie. It’s… mindfucking.
