During the day sunlight from glass panes in the ceiling giving the forms a welcoming glow. But the space remains separate from the rest of the museum, both in form and in spirit. Though the designs for the columns were based on their original profiles, the forms are most impressive as playful, freeform expressions. They turn the formal hall into a playful, theatrical space were anything could happen next: a recital, a rally, or a dance party. What’s most promising about the space is it’s potential as a site for impromptu social and artistic happenings. Situ Studio has brought a little bit of Brooklyn into the Museum.
