This unusual combination of craftsmanship, folk art and old school California skate/surf aesthetic somehow fit, making for a magical environment rife with clues about this next stage in Flotsam’s (Shine’s tricky, Faustian protagonist) life. A continuation of last year’s wildly popular Flotsam’s Wonder World, the setting of this show takes place hundreds of years later and is a reference to Nietzsche’s “Thus Spoke Zarathustra”. According to the press release, “Flotsam continues bargaining with the devil in order to ensure the survival of mankind. Der Wilden Mann is a post-apocalyptic atmosphere where a return to the rustic and primitive are the ruling aesthetic and man becomes unshackled from the commandments, prejudice, propaganda, and religious agendas of the previous age.”

Der Wilden Mann runs from April 16 – May 7, 2011 at Copro Gallery in Santa Monica, California.
