So is Latin America, as Ruiz portends in the introduction, “the promised land of street art”? Unlike dozens of urban graffiti meccas around the world that continue to categorize the art form as vandalism, many Latin Americans actually embrace and support the advent of more public works, viewing the ‘illegal’ paintings as improvements on their cities, not viruses. Their encouragement of, and attitude toward uncensored self-expression could very well be the future of street art. Or, as it may come to be known in the new world, simply: art.
