Yeah, but also as a responsible person. Pamela had a lot of fear about that; she was afraid to get in trouble with Child Protective Services for not medicating him. Or for him getting in trouble in school and it would be blamed on her. She has a record with CPS. She was doing the best that she could and it took a long time but at some point she realized he’s the same with or without medication.

Why do you think you and Zach Condon work so well together?
I don’t know; all I know is that I’m very fortunate that I met him, that I insisted on meeting him. There’s something about his music and the way I see the world, I guess, that just correlates. When we did our first music video, “Elephant Gun,” I didn’t know him at all and I wrote him on MySpace saying that I wanted to do a music video for him. He was 20 years old; I’d just moved to the US, and he came to stay at my house with his [now] wife. I didn’t know him or anything about him and I had covered the whole room with maps, that was the set of “Elephant Gun.” And when he came in he said, “Wow, my studio’s covered in maps.” It was one of those things that you can’t plan, and it’s been like that always for us. We work together and things just fall into place.
