His music is in the film, along with Bob Dylan’s. And somehow they belong together.
I think so. I think they’re both authentic people who have a strong voice. They have an aesthetic of their own but their style and their aesthetic never overshadows their authenticity. I know a lot of people who are very authentic but not that interesting, and I know a lot of people who are very interesting but aren’t that authentic. I find both of them to be very special in that way.
Are you working on anything now?
Yes; what happened with Bombay Beach was unexpected and I’ve been traveling for six months to festivals so I didn’t have much time, but I have started to work on my next two things. One of them is another documentary, also a hybrid – it has other elements in it. The other is a narrative script I’m writing.
Will either have dance sequences?
I think the narrative will. Yes, I hope so.
