The characters in the story have iconic names like Bonnie, Jackie and Patti. What are your influences for the second volume?
Poliziotteschi films were a major influence for the second book, particularly with the ‘HEIST’ series. We’ve always been fans of that sub-genre and thought it would great to see female criminals thrown together in a room preparing for a bank heist. You see the girls getting dressed, applying their wigs, rolling joints, getting high, and loading weapons. All the things any criminal unit would do before a job of this sort. Putting the wardrobe together with the wigs and masks was such a blast.
Where were the photos taken?
“Luce Solare” was photographed in the western regions of Kansas and all of the “Summer Lovers” images were photographed in the deserts of California. We specifically shot the “Coyote” series in Death Valley for a particular backdrop that we love. The entire “Heist” series was done in studio.
Every once in a while when Joni and I are on location, we’ll have our workflow interrupted by a passerby or some strange occurrence, so we try to stay alert at all times. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of knowing you have a retired couple spying on you with binoculars from 50 yards away while you’re shooting nudes in some deserted location. Moments like that always keep the shoots interesting.
