I would never have guessed that the film’s set on Staten Island, but the borough has some beautiful areas.
Yeah, it does. We shot a lot of nice stuff in Staten Island; that scene where Greta is walking through the reservoir, walking away from campus, all kinds of things. There was one day we had in Brooklyn.

The film’s such great PR for Snug Harbor.
Oh it’s wonderful, so pretty. Our location guy, Chris Menges, found it.

Obviously dance and dancing is important to you.
Yeah, it is; I wish I could dance more often; my favorite thing is Brazil Night at SOBs downtown; I love Brazil Night. I’d like to be a Samba drummer.

Do you like movie musicals?
I do; my favorite movie is The Gay Divorcee.

That’s a classic. Would you like to make one?
No, I like having some of it, but I wouldn’t want a whole film of it.

Any genre of film you’d like to make that you haven’t?
There are a lot of genres of film I’d like to make that I haven’t; it’s kind of an accident I got on this path though the accident makes sense. I’d love to make a little historical adventure film that I had in mind, do things like that, but I guess it doesn’t exploit my commercial flair factor, but I’d still like to do it.
