Disappointed though they may be, Obama’s green-leaning supporters will probably show up at the polls for him again. After all, the president’s failure to enact a comprehensive energy strategy over the past four years hasn’t been for lack of trying. In Nixon’s day, a motivated public and an amenable Congress gave the chief executive little choice but to lead the way. Obama’s time in Washington has obviously seen a different dynamic. But since this is a campaign, those environmentally conscious voters might think of pressing the candidate asking for their support to take a page from someone few of them would have considered electing four decades ago. So go ahead this fall and vote for someone living if you must, but when you’re doing so, make sure you’re also voting for Nixon.
