The deaths of these men infuse the images with an extra poignancy, hammering home the theme of the ultimate sacrifice. Though it might have been nice to see a female war photographer in the mix (Lynsey Addario and Kate Brooks come to mind), it’s hard to nitpick when the work is this strong and the cause so worthy. A Form of Love is a timely gathering of work, beautifully illustrating both the harshness of war and the humanity that can bloom in its midst.
The opening reception of A Form of Love takes place on Saturday October 18th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 205-A, 205 Avenue A at 12th Street. Limited copies of the book will be available for purchase.
